As you are aware, over the past year there has been a dramatic fight to gain equality for gay marriage and for the LGBT community to have equal rights. It has been such an attention grabber, that Celebrities are even taking a stand on it; Even Queen Bey, as you see below.
Now this was a very bold move for the all American star because even though her fans love her for who she is, they may not all agree with her encouragement and support of the LGBT community and gay marriage. Then again, who cares! states the queen herself. Beyoncé slyly challenges our ethos(character) and pathos(emotions), by saying sternly but simply, “If you like it, you should be able to put a ring on it” , which instantly pokes at your character asking, why should you be able to marry the love of your life, if you don’t want others to have the same privilege? Tricky, right?
If we just took a few minutes to really see what Beyoncé was doing, we would realize she’s making an argument and she’s winning. She wins because she gently persuades us to put down the judgment sticks and channels our emotions with the topic of love and marriage. Beyoncé is well aware that she is a role model to her audience, because of her character and heart. She knows that we aspire to be replicas of her and she uses that to her advantage in her argument to persuade her audience to stand by her in support of marriage equality.
